Anti-Wrinkle Injections

As we get older lines may develop on your face because of many factors, such as ageing, sun exposure, dehydration, smoking, gravity and poor nutrition. They are even created by your own facial expressions due to constantly contracting from laughing and smiling. The purpose of anti-wrinkle injections is to offer you non-surgical and minimally invasive solutions to help you improve and maintain the appearance of your skin.

Anti-wrinkle injections are also called Wrinkle Relaxers, Muscle Relaxers, and Neuromodulators which are actually derived from a bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. This is a naturally occurring protein that causes the muscles of the face to relax, consequently smoothing out wrinkles.

What Can Anti-Wrinkle Treatment be used for?

Anti-Wrinkle Injectables work to prevent the formation of static wrinkles by stopping the signal between the nerve and muscle. The decreased movement in the muscle places less stress on the skin helping you maintain a fresh and youthful appearance. This treatment is most effective when used as a preventative measure.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to treat for example:

Forehead/Frown line - Also called Glabellar Lines (Between the eyebrows). Frown lines or the dreaded number ‘11’ between the eyebrows can often make you look mad or stressed if they are present at rest.

Masseter muscle (which can also aid in bruxism patients and hypertrophy) - This is a major muscle for chewing but also contributes to teeth and jaw grinding and clenching. So, if you suffer from jaw pain or your partner complains of you grinding in your sleep, this can be a great treatment option. The aesthetic benefit of this treatment can be a slimmer facial and jawline.

Lines around the eyes (commonly known as crow’s feet) -They often form as small creases when you smile, however, can extend laterally and eventually spread down to the cheek area.

Nose ( commonly known as bunny lines) - Those creases that form when you scrunch up your nose.

Gummy Smile Correction - The LLSAN (Levator labii superioris alaeque nasalis ) Muscle normally elevates the upper lip. Relaxing this muscle activity a little helps to reduce the amount of gum that is visible above your teeth when you smile.

Dimpling of the Chin - If you have a “dimply chin” we can place a wrinkle relaxer into the mentalis muscle which will help to settle this area down. Moreover, it can also help to prevent the curved line that some people develop around their chin.

Chronic migraine - Wrinkle relaxers can also be used to help with migraines and tension headaches. Injection points are usually across similar areas to the Glabellar, Frontalis and Temporalis muscles.

Upper lip lines and corners of the mouth - are the lines above the upper lip. They start at the bottom of the nose, ending at the top of the lip, creating a stretched-out look while the Marionette lines (corner of the mouth) are long vertical wrinkles that traverse from the corners of the lips to the chin.

Widened or square jaw - As we age, the lower part of the face can become wider and squarer. This can be due to over-developed muscles in the jawline.

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) - The treatment is mainly applied to the under-arm area, however, we can also perform the treatment on your hands, feet, scalp and even in the groin and under the breast area if this is where the excessive sweating occurs.

When Should I Start Having Treatments?

There is no definite age when you should start your treatments for the first time. —it’s more about the state of your skin, and everyone’s timeline is different. While we are all ageing, some of us are ageing at a faster pace than others or may be exposed to other environmental triggers such as sun, heat and pollution that could be accelerating our ageing process.

For wrinkle treatments, it’s best to start when you notice fine lines in areas such as your forehead, frown, or smile lines around your eyes even when your expression is neutral, this is usually around the mid-’20s for most Caucasian skin types and typically a little later, closer to the 30s for Asian skin types. Depending on how heavy and deep these lines are, wrinkle relaxers generally will soften up these lines and with regular repeated treatments we will be able to help these wrinkles from worsening and if need be, we can add other treatments to address these too (such as dermal fillers).

For contouring treatments such as brow lifts or jaw slimming, the right time is whenever you feel ready, as long as you are over 18.
