The Care You Deserve
Prevention is better than a cure. Broome Dental Clinic provides dental check-up's for all ages, creating a comprehensive dental and oral hygiene plan for the whole family.
Dental disease has been linked to a number of chronic diseases including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, stroke, kidney disease, dementia, oral cancers, pregnancy gingivitis and more. Therefore, not only is our mouth at risk from poor dental health, our whole body is at risk. It is important to have regular dental check-ups in order to maintain oral health.
Creating beautiful smiles
Tooth discolouration is caused by many contributing factors including tea, coffee, smoking, red wine and medications.
This procedure lightens and whitens teeth by helping to remove stains and discolouration. Teeth whitening can significantly improve the appearance of your teeth.
Teeth whitening can be performed in the chair, however, many of our patients enjoy the relaxed convenience of whitening their smiles at home.
Creating your best smile
If you have decay or you want to replace your old metal fillings, tooth-coloured composite restorations are a safe and natural-looking material to restore your teeth to health.
Removal of dysfunctional teeth
A tooth may need to be extracted for a number of reasons including:
- Decayed beyond repair
- Periodontitis (gum disease)
Depending on the location of the tooth in your mouth as well as your current general and oral health, there are several different options available for you.
Local anaesthetic: Mainly used for easy access and removal
Penthrox: Sedation for anxious and nervous patients in the dental chair.
WISDOM TOOTH REMOVAL
To free you from pain
The most common form of oral surgery is wisdom teeth removal.
When wisdom teeth don't erupt in line with our existing teeth or there is not enough space to erupt, wisdom teeth can have serious effects on our oral health.
Local anaesthetic can be used to free you from pain during the removal of easy to access wisdom teeth.
Penthrox sedation is available for anxious and nervous patients in the dental chair.
We also provide a facility for treatment and removal of wisdom teeth under general anaesthesia when required.
ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
An alternative to tooth extraction
An infected or inflamed tooth can be very uncomfortable and painful.
Root Canal treatment is necessary when the pulp, nerve and soft tissue inside the tooth becomes inflamed or infected. Once this is removed, the remaining space is cleaned, shaped and filled.
The tooth is saved and restored back to its full function and appearance. This removes the need for an extraction and alleviates the risk of the dental infection spreading to surrounding teeth and tissues.
CROWN AND BRIDGE
Creating the perfect smile
A crown is a restoration that covers the tooth entirely and restores it to its natural shape and size. The crown strengthens and protects the remaining tooth structure and can improve the appearance of your smile
Functions of a crown:
- Restore cracked, heavily filled, worn, discoloured or misshaped teeth
- Protect and strengthen a tooth following root canal treatment
- Restore a dental implant
A bridge can be used to fill the space of a missing tooth.
Whiter, brighter teeth
A dental veneer is a thin, custom-made covering that is placed over the front of the tooth. It can be made from ceramic or composite resin.
Dental veneers are popular for restoring the strength and appearance of teeth that may be:
- Cracked or broken
- Poorly shaped
Veneers are generally used as a cosmetic dental treatment, and are perfect for patients whose teeth are naturally yellow or grey and can’t achieve a white smile with teeth bleaching.
Visiting specialists to straighten your teeth
We are pleased to provide visiting Orthodontists Dr Razza and Dr Goonewardene who visit our practice once a month to provide the people of the Broome community and surrounds with specialist orthodontic treatment for the whole family. Services range from simple plates to complex full banding. Call to book a consultation.
A clear alternative to braces
At Broome Dental Clinic we are proud to be able to offer ClearCorrect aligners. These can be used to straighten maligned teeth or close gaps using a technology that is less visible to the naked eye.
Clear aligners can be a more viable option for adults wanting to change their smile using the latest technology and minimally invasive treatment.
To prevent dental decay
A fissure sealant is a tooth-coloured filling material that is placed into the grooves of the posterior teeth. This helps to protect the teeth from decay caused by food becoming trapped in the deep grooves of the teeth. Fissure sealants can be placed in both children and adult teeth.
Customised to fit your teeth
A customised mouthguard has the power to prevent injury to give you peace of mind whilst playing sports. Mouthguards are recommended to be warn whilst playing contact sports.
A custom made mouthguard allows for a more comfortable, retentive and less bulky fit compared to over-the-counter generic mouthguards.
Restoring your smile
Together we work with our expert Laboratory using advanced technology and new materials to offer cosmetically pleasing dentures to improve oral health and appearance. Dentures restore the form and function of missing teeth by filling in and replacing gaps with artificial teeth.
They come in two main forms:
- Partial: Can be fabricated when a patient only needs to fill in one or multiple teeth, but still has healthy natural teeth intact. The natural, healthy teeth serve as anchors for the dental appliance.
- Complete: Replace an entire missing set of teeth.
DENTAL SLEEP MEDICINE
To help you and your partner get a better nights sleep
Snoring is a problem brought on by a narrowing of the airway during sleep. It is the vibration of the floppy parts of the throat which give rise to the snoring noise. Snoring may be no more problematic than the noise itself, or it may be a sign of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) where the airway partially or completely closes and breathing temporarily stops. Such interruptions to breathing can happen many times during the night, reducing the amount of oxygen to the body and brain and disrupting the normal sleep cycles. Depending on the degree of severity this can result in excessive daytime sleepiness, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure and occasionally in heart attack or stroke. Severe cases of OSA can be life threatening.
Oral appliance therapy has been proven to be effective in treating snoring and mild to moderate OSA. For people with severe OSA the CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine is recommended as the gold standard treatment, however oral appliance therapy can be used effectively in such cases if the patient cannot tolerate the CPAP machine. Oral appliances are designed to assist breathing by keeping the tongue forward, thereby opening the airway space in the throat.
Gingivitis & periodontitis
A scale and clean, is designed to remove plaque and c calculus build-up that is unable to be removed with normal everyday brushing at home. A regular scale and clean will help prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
Gum disease comes in tow main forms:
- Gingivitis: Red and puffy gums that bleed when brushed, can also be quite painful. Most commonly seen as plaque induced gingivitis, however, gingivitis can be induced by some medications too. Gingivitis can be reversed with regular dental scale and cleans as well as a good at-home oral hygiene regime.
- Periodontitis: Is when gingivitis goes untreated and the inflammation spreads to the underlying bone. This increases the risk of infection and can cause teeth to become mobile and eventually fall out. Depending on the severity of the periodontitis it can be maintained by having regular scale and root cleaning performed at the dentist. In cases where cleaning is too uncomfortable it can be performed under local anaesthetic.
A dental emergency is dental issue that are causes sudden and sharp or chronic pain, discomfort or anxiety.
This may be in the form of a dental infection or trauma to the teeth during an accident or sporting injury.
If you cannot wait for business hours to be treated, call the emergency department at the Broome Hospital to arrange emergency treatment.
To help us get an accurate diagnosis
Broome Dental Clinic has the latest technology when it comes to dental x-rays. We use in the mouth digital x-rays for faster and clearer images.
We also have a brand-new OPG and lateral cephalomentic x-ray machine which allows us to take full mouth images to see the wisdom teeth and associated nerves, the bone levels and many more things. As well as a side view of your face, used during orthodontic treatment.
